The Music Programme at West Greenwood Primary School offers all students the opportunity to learn about, play, perform and experience music in a wide range of contexts and utilizing a range of instruments and musical technologies. Our Music Co-ordinator believes that Primary aged children should be exposed to as many different genres, styles of playing and teaching, instruments, and performance scenarios as possible therefore equipping them with the best skills and knowledge to navigate their musical learning journey as they progress towards Secondary School.
We use tuned and non-tuned percussion instruments such as glockenspiels and drums, woodwind such as recorders and flute (for some students through the SIM programme), stringed instruments such as ukuleles and guitars, brass instruments such as trumpet and trombone (for some students through the SIM programme) and voice and whole body movement through community songs. We also learn about and use the Garageband electronic music composition and recording application through the senior years.
West Greenwood Primary School sing together or enjoy performances from their peers at every assembly (once per fortnight), have a flute and brass ensemble, a rock band and a school choir. Our choir participate in the One Big Voice concert held at RAC Arena, we also often host One Big Voice auditions and Young Talent auditions. All of our students are encouraged to audition for our annual music concert where we showcase the amazing talented students at our school with performances from solo piano and violin pieces to small ukulele groups to singing and dancing acts to our own rock band.
